Christmas Eve

Jason Chatwin

What makes “Christmas Eve” work isn’t irony or glitter-drenched nostalgia. It’s sincerity — that dangerous, unfashionable thing pop stars used to trade in. The chorus hits like a group hug: “The love of passing strangers everywhere” — it’s corny, yes, but that’s kind of the point. Sometimes, especially in 2025 Britain, corny feels revolutionary.
